Leather patch for pulling ferrules
If you want to reuse a ferrule after removal, then using a leather patch to pull it (instead of a pliers) is the way to go. The inside of the leather is rough and does a good job getting a hold on the ferrule. The leather is thick enough that it will protect your hand from the heat required to soften any internal epoxy.
